there are few moments
when i feel big enough
to walk in my shoes
mostly i'm breathing in
Smallness
of the kind that
humbles
not
humiliates
today i swam in those moments
diving through forests of smallness
of the infinitesimal smallness
of time and breath
that are mine
in this cosmic vastness
space of endlessness
through pokey pine needles of restless
time and space
that precede
me
Us
how else do you respond
to a 34 million year old
petrified redwood tree stump?
